GMS Announces Offering Of Workplace Noise Monitoring

Richfield, Ohio – July 18, 2022 – GMS’ safety department has been working diligently to find new ways to create safer work environments for clients. It is with great excitement that GMS will now be offering workplace noise monitoring assessments.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has begun an enforcement phase of its emphasis program to prevent workplace hearing loss. OSHA’s new regulations on noise exposure require employers to implement a hearing conversation program when employee noise exposure is equal to or exceeds an 8-hour time-weighted average (TWA) sound level of 85 decibels (dBA). The OSHA permissible exposure limit (PEL) for noise is 90 dBA as an 8-hour TWA. To learn more about the importance of this program, click here.

If clients feel that their workplace environment is too loud, they can request GMS safety experts to come onsite and evaluate. In addition, they will analyze the plans the client has in place currently, utilizing sound monitor equipment to ensure OSHA compliance and the safety of employees. Sound level meters are excellent tools for finding the overall noise level of a task, piece of machinery, or a specific area.

Paul Aldrich, Safety Manager at GMS, expressed, “Our job is to reduce injury by educating and training employees – and this includes noise exposure. By identifying hazardous noise levels within the workplace, physical and mental stress, potential hearing loss, and hefty OSHA charges can be avoided.”
